Belly button surgery, or umbilicoplasty, is an increasingly popular plastic surgery procedure that can reconstruct the size, shape, and position of the belly button. People who are unhappy with the appearance of their belly button can feel self-conscious about wearing swimsuits, being intimate, getting piercings, or wearing tight-fitting clothing. Many people have been unhappy with their belly button for all of their lives. For some, the belly button was distorted from pregnancy, weight gain or even umbilical hernias. Others just want to turn their “outtie” into an “innie”.
While Umbilicoplasty may be performed as a stand alone procedure for those just looking to change their belly button and nothing else, it is most commonly performed as part of a tummy tuck or lower body lift operation.
If the umbilicoplasty is being done as a stand alone procedure, it may only require local anesthesia and a sedative for the patient. Dr. Danielpour and Dr. Layke can perform an umbilicoplasty in the accredited surgery center located in the same building as our office and the process may take between 30 and 90 minutes from start to finish. Your scar will be hidden inside of the navel and there is little if any swelling, bruising or discomfort and results are immediately visible. Patients may return to work or other daily activities the same day as their procedure, again only recommended if it is the only procedure being done.
In a society that has become admittedly obsessed with midriff baring styles, an umbilicoplasty gives patients confidence in their appearance and allows them to enjoy a full range of fashions without feeling self-conscious. Umbilicoplasty is safe, quick, and provides immediate results with a very low risk for complications or side effects.
