Many people experience thinning hair, receding hairlines, and bald spots as they age, often as the result of genetic factors. Restoring this missing hair used to be possible only using the “strip harvesting” method, where a piece of scalp containing hair follicles is cut out of the back of the head, leaving a highly visible scar. This procedure is uncomfortable and requires a long recovery time.
However, it is now possible to extract hair follicles one by one, eliminating the need for invasive surgery. Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Group is proud to offer hair transplants using NeoGraft, which fills in sections of missing hair and produces a more natural-looking hairline than older hair transplant methods.
How NeoGraft Works
Like the “strip harvesting” method, NeoGraft uses donor sites on the back and sides of your hair, or other areas of your body if those sites aren’t viable. A small pneumatic device extracts hair follicles one by one, then implants them into the desired areas. Local anesthesia is used to numb the scalp. You can relax, listen to music, or even watch TV during the procedure.
Though there is little to no scarring, you will still need to undergo a short recovery process. Do not touch the new hair with either your hands or a comb, and only resume brushing, shampooing, and other hair care after 10 days. Results will become visible in several months.
It is important to note that NeoGraft does not allow you to “regrow” hair. You will still have the same amount of hair follicles as before, just in different locations for better aesthetic effect. NeoGraft is recommended only for patients experiencing hair loss due to genetics or aging. It is not recommended for patients whose hair loss is due to stress, medication, or medical treatment, since in those cases, hair follicles may still be active and can regrow.
