Even with a good diet and regular exercise, some people still can’t seem to eliminate portions of fat. Excess fatty tissue can be hereditary, especially for certain parts of the body. If you have already tried to lose weight and just need that extra push to achieve your ideal body contour, then liposuction may be for you. With our expertise in anatomy and physiology, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Group can mold a harmonious body shape and improve your self-image.*
What is Liposuction?
Also called lipoplasty or “lipo” for short, liposuction is the direct removal of fat through small incisions in the skin. Though some areas of the body are not good candidates for liposuction, many areas can be treated:
- Calves and ankles
- Thighs
- Inner knee
- Buttocks and hips
- Waist and abdomen
- Chest
- Back
- Upper arms
- Chin and neck
- Cheeks
Complementary Plastic Surgery Procedures
Liposuction is often paired with other procedures such as breast reduction, a tummy tuck, or a facelift, but it can also be performed alone. Though liposuction does achieve fat reduction, it should not be used as a cure for obesity. It is also not effective in treating loose, saggy skin or cellulite, patches of dimpled skin that appear on the buttocks, hips, and thighs. Often, Dr. Danielpour and Dr. Layke perform RFAL (Radiofrequency Assisted Liposuction) using the Inmode BodyTite with traditional liposuction to achieve the desired skin tightening results.*
What is the Liposuction Procedure?
Ideal candidates for liposuction are adults with firm, elastic skin, good muscle tone, and who are within 30% of their ideal weight. It is also highly recommended to avoid liposuction if you are a smoker or have a serious medical condition that impairs your healing ability.
You and our plastic surgeons will discuss the results you are trying to achieve and target specific areas for improvement. Once you have chosen the body areas to undergo liposuction, the procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia, or intravenous sedation. The choice of anesthesia is based on your preferences and your surgeon’s recommendation.
Our plastic surgeons make small incisions at the target sites and insert a cannula, or thin hollow tube. The cannula is moved gently back and forth to loosen the targeted fat. Once the fat is prepared, it is suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum. Your plastic surgeons then seal the incisions and may continue molding the treated areas using elastic bandages or a compression garment.
Liposuction Results and Recovery
We recommend having a friend or family member drive you home from the procedure so you can recover from the anesthesia. The recovery process differs for each individual. You may be prescribed medications, as well as special dressings or bandages. You may also need to return to have your stitches removed. It is important to care for your surgical incisions and not subject them to excessive force or abrasion while you heal. As the swelling dissipates, your body’s new contours become visible. If you maintain good fitness and a steady weight, results from liposuction can be long-lasting.*
