Breast enhancement surgery is a personal choice. When opting for breast augmentation, you should make the most mindful considerations for yourself. These topics should be discussed with your surgeon prior to surgery to ensure your happiness and most successful outcome. A few things you should discuss with your surgeon are: size, the type of implants (saline vs. silicone, round vs. shaped, textured vs. smooth), where the implant will be placed and where the incision will be.
Breast Augmentation Incisions
There are several different kinds of breast incision locations. Each type of incision is in a unique location, and they each have their own benefits and risks. It’s important to understand that your surgeon might have a recommendation that he/she considers to be best for you. Not all surgeons offer every incision, and not every incision can be offered depending on the type of implant, size of areola, location of previous scars, and location of implant placement. Discuss with your surgeon all of the options to educate yourself on what is best for you.
Unless you are a better candidate for a breast lift in conjunction with breast augmentation, here are the main types of breast incisions that both Dr. Layke and Dr. Danielpour perform for breast enhancement at the Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Group :
Inframammary Incision
The inframammary incision is located in the inframammary crease under each breast, (this is where the wire would sit with an underwire bra). An inframammary incision gives the doctor direct access to the breast pocket which allows better creation of the pocket and precise placement of the implant. Another benefit of the inframammary incision is that the scar is very well hidden underneath the breast and is typically not seen when wearing a bathing suit or bra.
Periareolar Incision
The periareolar incision is one of the most commonly used incisions today. The most seamless and inconspicuous incisions are made at the edge of the areola and the lighter breast tissue. This helps the incision blend between the edge of two colors, is easily hidden, and has a tendency to heal nicely.
SIMM Incision
Last, but certainly not least, the very unique SIMM Procedure (Single Incision Mommy Make-Over) allows Dr. Danielpour and Dr. Layke to perform both a tummy tuck and breast augmentation simultaneously, utilizing the abdominoplasty incision to insert the breast implants. This results in a breast augmentation with absolutely no scars on the breast …and a flatter, tighter mid-section!
