And the Winner is? Lipo. Yep, still #1

Yes, liposuction is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the United States for 10 years running. Whether performed alone or in conjunction with other procedures, the goal of liposuction is plain and simple: to get rid of unwanted fat. (No wonder it appeals to so many.)

Does it Work?

Whether it is traditional suction lipectomy, laser lipo, ultrasound lipo or any other modality used to achieve the removal of fat, one thing is certain:  IT WORKS!  Each type of liposuction has its place, whether it is for small volume or large volume removal, whether it is for secondary procedures, or for tough fibrous areas.

Most commonly liposuction is performed on the abdomen and flanks, however in our practice we perform liposuction on the neck, face, arms, breast (especially for men), back, thighs, and lower legs.

There is a caveat to this-  There are safety guidelines and anatomical restrictions on how much and where the fat can be removed.

Liposuction does work and is a great way to remove fat as long as:

1- It is done by a fully trained Plastic Surgeon or Dermatologist.

Having a fully trained and licensed Plastic Surgeon or Dermatologist will ensure that you receive safe and proper treatment and greatly decrease the complication rate that has been so common in the hands of others.

2-  The patient has reasonable expectations.

Each patient is different and each person has different goals and expectations.  A thorough discussion explaining the risks and benefits and timing of results is necessary for each and every individual.  It is very important to individualize each patient and explain that final results will not be apparent for up to 6 months in some cases due to prolonged swelling.

3-  Patient adheres to post operative instructions.

Following liposuction it is a MUST to wear post operative compression to achieve the absolute perfect result.  Adhering to post operative instructions including massage and compression are absolutely necessary to achieve the contour that is desired in the shortest amount of time.

4-  Post operative weight is maintained.

It seems intuitive but all bets are off if there is weight gain after the procedure.
