Breast Reduction: Could This Be What’s Been Keeping You From the Gym?

We know the story: After a full day on your feet, it feels like you’ve been carrying around two 10-lb weights, suspended on your chest by tiny straps, accompanied by a biting pain as they dig into your shoulders. Does Victoria Secret even understand?

You want to stay fit and go to the gym, but the size of your breasts make you feel self-conscious – or it just plain hurts to exercise.

You’ve given up on wearing those cute summer dresses, and sourly trade them in for ancient Greek breast armor.  There is a solution…an often times your insurance company will pay for it!

Overly large breasts can cause some women to have both health and emotional problems. In addition to self image issues, it is very common to experience physical pain and discomfort. The weight of excess breast tissue can impair your ability to lead a normal life, let alone an active one.

Also known as reduction mammaplasty, breast reduction surgery removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body and to alleviate the discomfort associated with overly large breasts.

A typical breast reduction at the Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Group will take 2-3 hours, and is performed at a fully accredited Surgery Center. This is performed as an outpatient procedure, and each patient can typically recover in the setting of their own home, or they can stay at a recovery center with 24-hour nursing and pampering for an additional cost.

Dr. Layke and Dr. Danielpour will give you specific instructions for breast reduction recovery that may include: how to care for your breasts following breast reduction surgery, medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the risk of infection, specific concerns to look for at the surgical site or in your general health, and when to follow up with us at the Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Group.

Be sure to ask your plastic surgeon specific questions about what you can expect during your individual recovery period.

• Where will I be taken after my surgery is complete?
• What medication will I be given or prescribed after surgery?
• Will I have dressings/bandages after surgery? When will they be removed?
• Are stitches removed? When?
• When can I resume normal activity and exercise?
• When do I return for follow-up care?

Please contact us for a free consultation at (310) 275-6600 to see if you are a candidate for breast reduction surgery.
