Liposuction for Men

By January 29, 2013 No Comments

Liposuction still ranks as the most common aesthetic surgical procedure.  The times are changing and plastic surgery is no longer only for women.  It seems that “too old” is not a phrase that is used anymore and that men are on the bandwagon to maintaining their youthful look.  Unfortunately as we age it is more difficult to shed the pounds from the prolonged Thanksgiving gluttony, or the never ending Christmas feast, or Superbowl Sunday with wings, beer and more wings.  Exercise can achieve some people’s goals but for the weekend warriors that can’t lose that extra love handle, or small beer belly, or that 3rd chin that is so apparent in the pictures, there is another solution: Liposuction!

The goal of liposuction for men is to remove targeted areas of diet and exercise- resistant fat in order to contour the body. It is commonly used to treat the neck, breast, abdomen, back, and flanks. Liposuction is equally effective in men and women.

Liposuction is not a method of weight control or a treatment for obesity. It is a complement to diet and exercise, not a substitute for them.

Liposuction works miracles for many patients because the fat removal with liposuction is permanent* because the fat cells are physically being removed in this procedure.  Our body does not manufacture new fat cells after puberty.  You can gain or lose weight by altering the amount of fat in each cell, but the number of those cells remains constant.  While it is still possible to gain weight after liposuction, the fat will be deposited more evenly throughout the body*.  It does not selectively relocate to the areas that underwent liposuction. For this reason, you can think of liposuction as a body re-proportioning procedure.

The procedure can be done under local anesthesia, twilight anesthesia or general anesthesia.  We perform liposuction in a fully accredited surgery center in the heart of Beverly Hills.  Most areas take around an hour or so and the downtime is minimal.  The final contour is usually seen in 3 months when all of the swelling has subsided.
